In order to achieve this challenge, GRTgaz called the company SIRFULL, a fast-growing french cloud-based digital solutions vendor and recognized for its SIRFULL™ Welding solution.
Counting more than hundreds of users in Europe (29 clients equipped in 2018), SIRFULL is also well known for its under pressure equipment’s preventive maintenance solution implemented for Storengy: the European top leader in natural gas storage.
Looking for a solution to harmonize all the best welding practices
Welding quality is a key element for companies involved in natural gas transportation. GRTgaz counts several welding workshops spread in France and one Integrity Unit, the GRTgaz head expertise in Paris. These workshops work each year on more than 300 linking construction sites and 250 welded mechanical structures.
These units have to access to up to date and homogeneous welding data and documentation.
Like the other players in pipeline transportation, GRTgaz has to produce well-historied welding activities’ regulatory documentation and has to ensure the overall optimum conditions of its equipment. “Libraries of data books“, “welding procedure specifications“, “welder procedure qualifications“…, more than a simple static library, the required system who was wanted by GRTgaz had to be designed like a know-how and technical processes digital toolbox that ensure regulatory compliance and overall best practices across the GRTgaz’s workshops.
The recipes for a highly customized & collaborative 4.0 welding solution
GRTgaz selected the 4.0 solution SIRFULL™ Welding in 2016 and a one-year agile development program had been implemented. A team composed of 10 GRTgaz expert members (8 welding and 2 IT in-house experts) and some SIRFULL specialists have taken into consideration all operator needs and performed the end-users test. The SIRFULL’s project team has designed and adapted the different modules of the solution with the collaboration of GRTgaz team.

First positive feedback: more traceability & more autonomous welders
Since autumn 2017, the software and its different functionalities were progressively deployed in order to assure the approval of final users. At the end of the deployment, more than 50 users (welding engineers, coordinators, manager, documentalists…) started to use the cloud-based welding solution.
Immediately, GRTgaz had appreciated the capabilities of SIRFULL™ Welding. “SIRFULL has considerably increased our traceability capacity. For example, we are able to find within just a few clicks an electrode or its old certificate that has been used for a piece of manufactured equipment or in an entire construction site. Before, it was this pretty tiresome because all files were manually consultable” reveals PHILIPPE IULIANO.
“The new solution also provides an easier welder qualifications management. In fact, SIRFULL™ Welding allows us to optimize, consult the norms and standards at every moment without knowing the regulation by heart. Moreover, 6 workshops specialized in welding are going to be able to work with higher autonomy at the beginning of 2018“, adds PHILIPPE IULIANO.
In 2018, SIRFULL will continue to assist its users until they get to use the software to its optimal potential.
